Discover Authentic Pakistani Food Near Me in Charleston: Malika Restaurant

Craving authentic Pakistani Food Near Me? Look no further than Charleston, South Carolina, where Malika restaurant is bringing the vibrant flavors and rich culinary traditions of Pakistan to the Lowcountry. Founded by Maryam Ghaznavi and her husband Raheel Gauba, Malika is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience rooted in family, culture, and a deep love for Pakistani cuisine.

Maryam’s journey with food began in Pakistan, where she was surrounded by the aromas and tastes of her mother’s, grandmother’s, and sister’s cooking. Growing up as the “chief taste tester,” she developed a profound appreciation for classic Pakistani dishes. Biryanis, Karahis, Saags, and Kababs became staples of her palate, and countless hours spent in the kitchen transformed this passion into culinary expertise.

Life took Maryam and Raheel from Pakistan to Canada, where they met, and eventually to the charming Lowcountry of South Carolina. In 2019, they seized the opportunity to introduce Charleston to Pakistani flavors through a pop-up at The Daily. The overwhelming positive response led to the birth of Ma’am Saab at Workshop in 2020, further solidifying their place in Charleston’s food scene. Now, they are expanding with a full-service restaurant on Meeting Street in downtown Charleston, alongside their popular fast-casual concept, Malika, located in Mount Pleasant Towne Centre.

Malika embodies the essence of Pakistani street food culture, a vital part of daily life in Pakistan. Maryam’s cherished memories of bustling streetside cafes (dhabas) filled with the enticing aromas of chaats and biryanis are the inspiration behind Malika. She aims to recreate those sensory experiences for her guests, offering not just a meal, but a taste of Pakistani hospitality and unforgettable moments.

Welcome to Pakistan, y’all.
