The World Health Organization (WHO) is set to host a pivotal series of virtual Health Talks from December 2nd to 6th, 2024, centered around “Food for Health”. This initiative shines a spotlight on the transformative role of health systems in delivering healthier food options, particularly to vulnerable populations grappling with diet-related non-communicable diseases. This series promises to dissect the regulatory, programmatic, and financial facets of this groundbreaking approach, emphasizing the critical role of Health Food Delivery.
Building upon WHO’s comprehensive package of game-changing food systems actions, these Health Talks aim to foster environments that promote equitable access to nutritious diets. Drawing from robust evidence, research, and diverse country experiences, the discussions will commence by evaluating the effectiveness of health food delivery programs like medically tailored meals and produce prescriptions. The series will further delve into the preparedness of the healthcare workforce in facilitating health food delivery, establish criteria for healthy food procurement within medical facilities, and highlight the crucial contributions of civil society in program implementation and advocacy. A concluding webinar will explore the potential of social protection mechanisms and the private and philanthropic sectors in enhancing the affordability and accessibility of sustainably produced health food delivery through health systems.
Over 30 international experts spanning health, food, social protection, and financial systems, including scientists, regulatory bodies, and policymakers, will contribute to these vital discussions. These sessions are designed to provide a collaborative platform for stakeholders to forge a framework of inter-sectoral actions, all geared towards enhancing health food delivery and healthier dietary patterns.
