Two individuals are facing serious criminal charges following a fatal shooting incident that occurred in the parking lot of a Cub Foods in Fridley. The incident, which took place last week, has resulted in second-degree murder charges for one suspect and aiding an offender charge for another.
According to court records, Johnson Kenny Sirleaf, 32, from Plymouth, is charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of 27-year-old Devon Michael Adams from Hugo. Blanyon Toe Davies, 29, of Brooklyn Park, is also charged with aiding Sirleaf and is facing a felony count for assisting an offender.
The incident unfolded shortly after 11 a.m. in the Cub Foods parking area, which is adjacent to the parking lot of an Extended Stay hotel. Police officers arrived at the scene and discovered Adams with a gunshot wound to his chest. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Adams was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Investigations revealed that Adams had been staying at the Extended Stay hotel for several weeks. On the day of the shooting, Adams returned to the hotel approximately an hour before the incident but remained in his truck. A witness reported hearing a “pop” sound followed by seeing Adams collapse. The witness also saw a red SUV speeding away from the location and noted that the same SUV had been seen at the back of the hotel in previous days.
A criminal complaint detailed how investigators used surveillance footage to piece together the events. The video showed the SUV entering the parking lot and directly approaching Adams’ truck, positioning itself to block the truck from moving. Witnesses reported hearing an argument between two individuals inside the SUV just before the gunshot was fired. Following the shooting, the SUV was tracked on video driving to an apartment complex situated off Main Street in Fridley.
Approximately 20 minutes later, the surveillance video captured a Ford F-250 pickup truck picking up the driver of the SUV before leaving the area. Further investigation revealed the SUV was registered to two women in Plymouth with connections to Sirleaf. The Ford F-250 was registered to Davies but had been transferred to another individual who shares the same address as Davies.
Cellphone data corroborated the surveillance video evidence, placing Sirleaf at the Cub Foods parking lot during the time of the shooting. The data also indicated that Sirleaf and Davies were together, consistent with the surveillance footage. Investigators further discovered that Davies had stayed at the Extended Stay hotel from March 5 to March 15, and Sirleaf had also spent nights there. Surveillance records showed both Sirleaf and Davies had frequented the hotel even after Adams’ death.
Both Sirleaf and Davies were scheduled for their initial court appearances on Thursday morning. If convicted on the second-degree murder charge, Sirleaf could face a prison sentence of up to 40 years. Davies, if convicted of aiding an offender, could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The community around Cub Foods Fridley and Extended Stay hotel remains affected by this incident as legal proceedings continue.
