We are currently seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to join our team as Grocery Associates at our Mint Hill location. As a Grocery Associate, you will play a vital role in ensuring our customers have an exceptional shopping experience. Your primary focus will be on providing quality customer service within our Center Store (Grocery) Department, contributing to our mission of easy, fresh, and affordable shopping.
Primary Purpose: Customer Service Excellence
Your main goal will be to deliver outstanding customer service within the grocery department. This includes maintaining department standards, maximizing sales through positive customer interactions, and minimizing waste through adherence to best practices. You will be an integral part of creating a welcoming and efficient shopping environment for every customer who walks through our doors.
Your Responsibilities as a Grocery Associate
As a Grocery Associate, your day-to-day tasks will be varied and engaging, focusing on both customer interaction and operational efficiency. Key responsibilities include:
- Creating a Positive Shopping Experience: Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a primary focus on fast, friendly, and accurate service. Be courteous and helpful to both customers and fellow associates, contributing to a positive team environment.
- Stocking and Merchandising Excellence: Ensure shelves are clean and well-organized by regularly cleaning shelves and shelf tag moldings. Maintain accurate shelf allocations by stocking merchandise from tag to tag, ensuring a visually appealing and easily shoppable department. Only place saleable merchandise on shelves to uphold quality standards.
- Efficient Department Operations: Follow company policies and guidelines for ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning, and displaying merchandise. Utilize company tools such as the average cost inventory system (ACIS) and computer-assisted ordering (CAO) to manage inventory effectively.
- Maintaining Standards and Compliance: Adhere to all company guidelines, policies, and standard practices. Understand and strictly follow Food Safety and Workplace Safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe environment for both customers and associates.
- Safety and Accident Prevention: Actively observe and correct any unsafe conditions that could potentially lead to accidents for associates or customers. Report all accidents promptly and in accordance with established Food Lion procedures to the Manager on Duty. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Professionalism and Teamwork: Wear the Food Lion uniform, complete with your name badge, at all times while on duty. Maintain a neat and clean appearance, adhering to the Food Lion dress code. Work effectively with team members to achieve common goals and contribute to a positive workplace.
- Continuous Learning and Development: Successfully complete all required Computer Based Training (CBT), Training Packet, and Training Aid courses to enhance your skills and knowledge. Be prepared to perform all other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn.

Physical Requirements of the Role
The Grocery Associate position requires a certain level of physical fitness to perform the duties effectively. You should be able to:
- Utilize Technology: Effectively use computers and other communication systems necessary to perform job functions.
- Perform Repetitive Motions: Engage in repetitive hand and arm motions throughout your shift.
- Lifting and Carrying: Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, lift up to 25 lbs. frequently, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Pushing and Pulling: Pull or push up to 75 lbs. on occasion and be capable of pushing or pulling up to 2000 pounds using a pallet jack.
- Prolonged Standing and Walking: Stand for 100% of your shift, frequently walking short distances within the store.
- Handle Various Substances: Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning and packaging materials, fresh produce, plants, and household cleaners safely.
- Operate Equipment and Handle Currency: Use hands frequently to handle currency (both paper and coin) and operate equipment such as cash registers, scanners, computers, and calculators.
- Reaching and Grasping: Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level, with occasional reaching above shoulder or below waist level.
- Meet Activity Standards: Meet established volume activity standards for the position, ensuring efficiency and productivity.
- Temperature Tolerance: Tolerate working in varying temperatures, including extreme hot/cold conditions for short periods (up to 20 minutes at a time).
- Visual Acuity: Possess sufficient visual ability to check ID cards, checks, invoices, and other written documents accurately.
