During my exciting trip to Guatemala, my senses were on high alert, especially when it came to food! As a passionate foodie, I was eager to explore the local cuisine and discover new ingredients. I even had the chance to peek into the kitchens of some local families, learning about their everyday cooking. It was fascinating to see how they make the most of their resources, especially when I went shopping at the local market and witnessed firsthand how to stretch a dollar. One of the most heartwarming experiences was volunteering with the Manna Ministry, where I helped serve meals to children in need.
This incredible program ensures that children, often from disadvantaged backgrounds, receive at least one nutritious hot meal each day. Seeing children walk miles to get to the Manna Ministry for lunch was truly humbling, and spending afternoons with them was a joy.
The meals were simple yet fulfilling, bringing smiles to countless faces and reminding me of the power of basic nourishment. This experience has even inspired me to continue my No Spend, Pantry Challenge back home, realizing how much we can do with simple ingredients. Since returning, I’ve been mindful of reducing waste and using what we already have.
Beyond the heartwarming ministry work, my culinary curiosity was constantly piqued by the diverse and intriguing “delicacies” I encountered. I love the challenge of trying new foods and, even more, trying to guess what they are!
So, here’s a tasty challenge for you: take a look at the photo below.
