Diving into the Deliciousness: Our Sol Food Mill Valley Lunch Review

Our team sampled a range of Sol Food’s signature dishes, giving us a comprehensive taste of what the Mill Valley location offers. Here’s a breakdown of our lunch experience:

Pollo Al Horno: A Flavorful Chicken Delight

Sophie opted for the Pollo Al Horno, described as free-range, wheat-free chicken thighs marinated in oregano and garlic, then baked to perfection. Served with rice, a choice of pink or black beans, organic salad, and sweet fried plantains, it’s a complete Puerto Rican culinary experience in one plate for $9.25 (1 piece).

Sophie, a usual fan of Sol Food’s rotisserie chicken (not yet available at Mill Valley), was pleasantly surprised. “It was quite tasty, even though I don’t typically lean towards dark meat.” She raved about Sol Food’s unique white rice, proclaiming it “unlike any white rice I have ever tasted, SO GOOD!” And the plantains? “They never disappoint. I got two of the garlic ones (the best, in my opinion) and they were tasty, crispy, and delicious.” Despite generous portions, Sophie admitted to cleaning her plate, a testament to the dish’s irresistible flavors.

Ensalada Con Pollo: Freshness and Flavor in a Salad Bowl

Michele chose the Ensalada Con Pollo, a wheat-free and free-range option featuring baked chicken thighs, tomatoes, avocado, and pickled pink onions atop organic greens, dressed with a lemon-garlic vinaigrette (small, $8.95).

Michele’s reaction after her first bite said it all: “Now I know what the long lines are about!” She praised the salad’s exceptional freshness, highlighting the “perfect tomatoes and avocado – were they just picked from the garden?” The large piece of chicken was also a hit, described as “AMAZING!” This salad clearly impressed, showcasing Sol Food’s commitment to quality ingredients.

Vegetariano: A Satisfying Vegan and Wheat-Free Choice

Calin, a long-time Sol Food devotee, played it safe and ordered her go-to dish: the Vegetariano. This vegan and wheat-free option features pink or black beans served over rice, accompanied by organic salad, fresh avocado, and fried plantains (small, $7.50).

Calin’s verdict? “It never disappoints.” She “inhaled it” and declared she “still feels great about life and myself” afterwards, a ringing endorsement for this comforting and wholesome vegetarian option.

Mimi and Dana opted to share the larger version of the Vegetariano (large, $9.50). Mimi, a self-proclaimed sharer, confessed regret at not ordering a full portion for herself, as it was “so good.” Dana echoed the sentiment, particularly enjoying the salad dressing, and exclaimed, “It was my favorite Thursday Lunch so far!” This dish proved to be a crowd-pleaser, even amongst sharing-inclined diners.

Mariquitas: Plantain Chips That Steal the Show

No Sol Food experience is complete without the Mariquitas. These thinly sliced green plantains are fried to crispy perfection and served with a tangy dipping sauce ($5.75).

The entire team dove into these, and the consensus was clear: “incredible!” Michele declared them “100 times better than any potato chip could be – and so much healthier!” These plantain chips are an absolute must-try, perfect for sharing (or not!).

Ponche: The Perfect Thirst Quencher

To complete the meal, Michele followed Leah’s recommendation and tried the Ponche. This refreshing drink is a half mango iced tea and half limeade concoction, also known as an “Arnoldo Palmerol” ($3.75).

Michele was “grateful” for the recommendation, describing it as “incredibly refreshing.” Her final words? “Meet me in line at Sol Food?” This sums up the Sol Food Mill Valley experience perfectly.
